I was reminded today while listening to The Wednesday Audio that it’s okay to unstuck your rut, to change things up. So this post is a slight bit different than usual. It’s image-heavy and word-lean.
In 2016 I started to subvert the nipple on Instagram by posting photos of reflections of my breasts. Yet, my love of reflections predates social media. Not reflections from mirrors tho. Mirrors are A+ reflection machines, giving back the accurate when all you want is a fantasy. I prefer the C and D reflection machines, whose flawed surfaces offer the reflection of us in a world we will never see.
As a kid, if you saw me staring out the window at night, you may not know that I was actually staring in. Watching the liquid room behind me layer upon the night outside. Water and metal were as reliable as glass at giving back a reality that was more interesting than my own. Definitely calmer. There was no yelling in reflections; it was a realm of downy silence.
My most photographed subjects are, in no particular order, people, reflections, and prairies. So here are some of my favorite reflection photos. For being flat, they have a depth that begs for the prod of a curious finger.

Through the door of the bakery at dawn
In the bath with my phone

And The Wednesday Audio caused a real-world thought? I must up my game.
I have a friend who takes tons of reflection photos! I love it. Reflections are so fun to play around with.
